BORROW, RETURN, RENEW AND RESERVE LIBRARY MATERIALS

Make use of the resources available at the library to help you accomplish your work!

Borrowing & Returning

Library collections that can be accessed, utilized and borrowed by the Midway Community supports the curricular offerings of Midway Colleges, Inc.

Library patrons can borrow physical items at the library through:

  • Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC) - Available titles on campus can be browsed through the library's online catalog.

  • Walk-in - Library patrons can directly visit the library to browse the shelves for available titles.

Returning of borrowed library materials can be done through:

  • Walk-in - Patrons can return the library material by personally visiting the library.

  • Drop Box - Patrons who wish to return library materials outside the library can drop the materials at the Information where a Drop Box is placed.

Renew & Recall

All patrons may renew until the end of the term provided that the material has not been reserved by another. In such case, the material will be recalled once another user asks for the same title and no other copies are available. Overdue fines shall incur if the material/s is/are not renewed on time as per the returning policy.

Loaning Period

The following guidelines shall be observed by all library patrons when borrowing library materials:

Reservation

The following guidelines shall be observed by all library patrons who wants to avail reservations:

  • Book reservations are available for patrons who are unable to immediately access the desired book/s due to its availability or loan status.

  • Patrons will receive notifications via MS Teams when the reserved book/s becomes available. Once the notification is sent, all reserved book/s must be picked up at the library unit before the library closing hour. Patrons are responsible for collecting the reserved books within the day of notification. Failure to do so may result in the cancellation of the reservation.

  • Reserved books are subject to the general loaning and returning policies including loan periods, renewals, and overdue fines. 

  • If a patron repeatedly fails to collect reserved books within the specified timeframe without prior notice, the library reserves the right to temporarily suspend their reservation privileges. 

  • To ensure equitable access for all patrons, a maximum of three (3) title reservation per patron will only be allowed. Patrons who wish to cancel their reservation must notify the library staff personally or via MS Teams. 

  • Reserved books will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. However, special considerations may be given to individuals with urgent research needs or academic requirements. 

  • In the event of multiple reservations for the same book, a wait list will be established, and patrons will be informed of their position in the queue. 

  • In the event that a reserved book becomes permanently unavailable or cannot be obtained within a reasonable timeframe, the library will inform the patron of the unavailability and offer alternative options or suggestions. 

The following guidelines shall be observed when making reservations for the use of library facilities and equipment:

  • ​​Only employees (faculty and non-teaching personnel) of Midway Colleges, Inc. shall be allowed to borrow equipment from the library and be accountable for the equipment until returned to the library.

  • Students who wish to borrow or reserve the library facility, the reservation will be put under the student organization's adviser or subject teacher.

  • All borrowers are responsible for returning borrowed equipment or reserved facilities in good condition and order.

  • Reservation of library facilities should be done at least one (1) day before the activity.

  • CLAYGO (Clean as You Go) shall be implemented at all times when reserving the library for an activity/event.

  • Special equipment and set-ups are to be prepared by the requestor.

Referral Services

For visiting researchers or alumni, the school policy on visitors shall be followed. When entering the library, they must present the following to any library personnel:

  • Student ID (Student ID/s must be surrendered during their stay in the library)

  • Referral letter from their respective library signed by their school librarian. In case of no I.D and letter presented during the visit, they shall be advised to secure the needed requirements and schedule for another visit.

  • Official Receipt from the cashier as proof of payment of research fee (Php 50.00)

  • Alumni card, for alumni

  • Bringing in of personal gadgets (laptops, tablets, mobile phones, etc.) and other valuables are allowed however, it is understood that the patrons shall be held responsible for these items. The library personnel and/or staff shall not be held liable for any damage, loss, or theft of these items.

  • The facility shall be used mainly for reading, research and study. Loud conversations and disruptive behaviors should be avoided.

  • CLAYGO (Clean as You Go) shall be strictly followed inside the library premises.

Fines & Fees

Fees and fines for overdue and lost materials shall be collected by the library and be paid at the Cashier.

  • Standard Overdue Fine: PHP 10.00/day/book

  • All lost materials/equipment must be reported to the Chief Librarian. 

  • Lost/damaged books are to be replaced by the borrower with the latest edition, or relevant title in the latest edition if the item is already out of stock or print.

  • Replacement fee shall be based on the latest edition of the book.

  • For lost equipment, the borrower must replace the item with the exact same specification, unless the said item is no longer in the market. In such cases, the closest or newest specification shall be considered.
